Jicarilla Hunt - Friday, November 17, 2017

Just a quick FYI. I will be out of the office from 19 NOV 2017 -21 NOV 2017 and will return to the office on the 22 NOV 2017.

I will be able to periodically check my e-mail (jicarillafishqs@gmail.com) during my absence. If you leave me a voicemail I will return your call as soon as I return.

Hope you all get out and fish before winter rears its ugly head! Have a great weekend!

Jicarilla Hunt - Wednesday, November 15, 2017
This is turning into another beautiful fall week. Though the weatherman says there is a change coming soon. I cannot imagine we have many more like this one left.
Fishing pressure has been incredibly light at the lakes, but all of the anglers the Fish Crew has talked to or observed have been catching fish very consistently. Which truthfully is my favorite way to fish, an awesome bite all to myself. In fact one fisherman reported he didn't think the fishing could be that easy after limiting out in two hours on fish up to 17". No information on flies but he was in a kick boat with a “wet-tip” line.

Just a friendly reminder as this is an issue every year: The limit on trout at Embom and Mundo is FIVE fish per angler. The limits are not going to change for the 2017/2018 fishing season. We still get creative fisherman that try to convince fish crew/law enforcement that we're wrong at the lake... Please read the proclamation before going fishing.

In response to some "theories" I have heard lately the Fish Crew is working on some in depth limnology, fisheries science, and fish physiology articles for the blog. I hope the readership finds them helpful, because I keep hearing the same old angler wives tales over, and over, and over again, even though many  have debunked (in some instances many, many, many decades ago). If you have questions you would like covered please send them my way at jicarillafishqs@gmail.com or call the office at (575) 759-3255.

The 12th Annual Jicarilla Ice Derby is scheduled for January 6th 2018! Get it on your calendars now. There is lots of planning yet to occur, but the date has been set (of course this is subject change based on ice safety, etc.).

Just a small update. The Fish Crew will be away most of the week for meetings and training. Please leave voice mails or e-mails so we can get back to you asap. I'll be checking my e-mail at least daily while on travel.

The only fishing report recieved noted high catch rates on the standard fly patterns like hares ears and wooly buggers. The group caught 60 fish in approximately  five hours of fishing. 2 Rainbows in the 18" range and two in the 17" range where the largest noted.

Have a great week and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Jicarilla Hunt - Thursday, November 02, 2017

We got the first snow this week, but it has dried out and has been excellent fall weather since. No reports have been submitted. But I have been creeping around the lake quite a bit and it appears that everyone with every conceivable technique is catching fish. Average size I've seen is around 17" out of Mundo. The weeds are still around but it doesn't appear to be slowing down those folks willing to fish from catching.

Have a good weekend!
