Jicarilla Hunt - Wednesday, December 27, 2017

Despite many Christmas wishing for ice fishing this weekend, it doesn't appear any wish made it on Santa's good list.

Mundo Lake still has open water and a very uneven ice sheet with no thickness measured over 3". NOT SAFE FOR ICE FISHING

Stone Lake has multiple acres of open water and a very uneven ice sheet with no thickness measured over 3.5". NOT SAFE FOR ICE FISHING

The Fish Crew will be out for the New Year Holiday until Wednesday January 3rd and will be giving you an update on conditions then.

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and best of luck in the New Year!

From the Fish Crew!

Jicarilla Hunt - Wednesday, December 20, 2017

It sure has been quiet, I normally am inundated with calls and e-mails this time of year. Anyone who has been keeping an eye on the weather should be aware of how warm and dry it has been. The ice conditions have not changed since the last report with a little less than half of Mundo lake covered with thin sheet ice.

The previously selected date of January 6th, 2018 for the 12th Annual Event does not appear to be very likely due to a total lack of ice at this late date. So we are changing it.

The Fish Crew is proposing to move the event to January 27th in a final attempt to let winter catch up with the calendar. Of course this date will also be dependent on ice conditions.

I will be posting the event flier this week.

Hope all is well,

Jicarilla Hunt - Thursday, December 14, 2017

It is that weird time in between boating season and ice fishing season. Mundo is currently 40% covered with thin ice. It appears doubtful unless the weather changes significantly that there will be any ice fishing before 2018. Ice fishing season has become pretty hard to predict, but its 50 degrees outside during the day, and that makes it pretty hard to grow ice. Of course there is just enough ice to make shore or boat fishing impossible.

Obviously there are no reports. I'll keep you all updated as the situation progresses.

Hope all is well,

Jicarilla Hunt - Monday, December 04, 2017

It feels like September. The long term forecast is predicting more of the same. No fishing reports have been submitted to the Fish Crew, but an issue has been noticed, the limit at Stone Lake is 2 trout per day. The Proclamation is available the main page of this website by clicking on the photo of it. You can also swing by the office and pick up a printed copy Monday through Friday 8-5. Please read and follow the proclamation.

The Ice Derby is tentatively scheduled for January 6th, but with this warm weather I would suggest just penciling it in. The temperatures are not showing any signs of cooling off, and there is no ice to be found at 60 degrees. I will keep everyone updated on the Derby but as some of the readers may be aware the Fish Crew does not control the weather. This is quite an abnormal year, if you remember last year we had safe ice by Christmas Weekend, and that was considerably later than years previous. Stay Tuned.

I will be out of the office from December 5th returning on December 12th. It turns out I like to fish too, and have sorted out a few days with a ten weight and box of clousers in an undisclosed location where it is warm.

Please e-mail and call as needed, I will respond to all calls and e-mails on the 12th.

Best of luck!
