Jicarilla Hunt - Thursday, June 29, 2017

The summer seems to be in full swing, and fishing report submissions have fallen off. What I have heard has included many fish caught early in the morning and late in the evening. Damsel fly patterns have been working well, as there are blue damsels everywhere in sight of water. The day time temperatures and high winds have made afternoon trout fishing slow, and most anglers have been looking somewhere between tomatoes and firetrucks that choose to fish through the heat of the day.

Just a warning to folks that would like to come camping, there is a fire ban in place and the fire danger is VERY HIGH according to the Smokey the Bear sign maintained by the forestry department.

The Jicarilla Apache Nation is on leave from Friday at 5:00 pm this week until Wednesday the 5th, so make sure to get your permits at the Hawks Express or the Wildhorse Casino and Hotel over during that time as the Game & Fish will be closed.

Hope you all have a great Fourth of July weekend,

Jicarilla Hunt - Thursday, June 15, 2017

Reports have basically been "everyone is catching" and some have caught some monsters. One Rainbow Trout was landed from the boat ramp dock at Mundo that was 24".

I would suggest since the weather is getting very warm to come catch 'em before they go deep for the summer!

If you all are planning on camping please be very careful with fires and completely drown them. I have come across a couple piping hot abandoned fire pits in the last few weeks. With no moisture in the forecast and high winds the fire danger is creeping up.

Just an FYI for you out of town anglers the Hawks Express Gas Station now is a Jicarilla Fishing Permit Vendor. Stop in and buy a tasty beverage and a permit!

Have a great weekend!
