Seven clear mountain lakes, from 30-400 acres in size,
grace the landscape on the Jicarilla Reservation. The cold waters
and high productivity of these lakes produce fat, rapidly growing
trout for eager anglers. Rainbow trout are most abundant, but cutthroat
and brown trout also are stocked in selected lakes. Spring and fall
fishing are superb for all species. Small boats (trolling speeds only)
and float tubes are popular with many fishermen, and redwood fishing
docks are provided at several lakes for shore fishermen. All seven
lakes are accessible by vehicle and are close enough to permit fishing
several lakes in a day. Good fishing is always available, just try
the next lake!
Permits are available at the Jicarilla Game and Fish
Department and Jicarilla Inn in Dulce and at selected sporting goods
stores in New' Mexico. Permits can be purchased for the entire season
or daily, and special discounts are available for children and senior
citizens. No state permit is required. Live baits (minnows, shiners,
etc.) are strictly forbidden.
