JICARILLA GAME AND FISH DEPARTMENT

FISHING REPORT  June 26th-July 3rd, 2006

Weekly Comments

It has been a while since I last updated our Fishing Report! Unfortunately, this will be my last fishing report as the Jicarilla Fisheries Biologist becasue I recently accepted a job with the Colorado Division of Wildlife as an Aquatic Biologist for the San Juan and Delores River Basins. I am going to miss managing the Jicarilla Lakes and discussing fisheries issues with our loyal anglers. However, the program is in good hands. Tom Watts, our Wildlife and Fisheries Specialist, will take over in the interim and he already has plans to start a job search to fill my vacancy. It has been a joy working for the tribe and managing some wonderful NM waters! Happy Fishing! Jim White

Stone Lake   Fair for 15-20 inch rainbows on blue fox spinners or silver kastmasters. Water is very low and only the lightest boats that one can hand carry to the shoreline should be used.

Horse Lake:  Good for fat 12-15 inch rainbows on any color powerbait. No boat ramp at Horse Lake.

La Jara Lake:  Not recommended for fishing until further notice. Will not stock this year.

Mundo Lake: Excellent for 10-12 inch rainbows on green or black bead headed wooly buggers; some smaller, and a few 2-3 lb largemouth bass, are being caught on lures. Also, some 10-12 inch catfish are being taken on chicken livers.

Enbom Lake: Fishing not recommended because of low water.
