Fishing Report 2-21-07
Hello Fisherfolks,
I would like to start off by saying sorry to the people who regularly use this site for up to date fishing reports. We have been experiencing technical problems with the site, and have not been able to post reports recently. The problem should be taken care of now and weekly reports will resume.
The Ice Fishing Tournament held on 2-10-07 was a big success and some large fish were taken from Stone Lake. The 1st place creel was recorded at 25 lbs. on 7 fish from Stone Lake. If you do the math, you should get excited about catching 3-4-5 lb Rainbows when Stone Lake opens for fishing on April 1st. All told, there was over 129 lbs of fish weighed in by 23 tournament contestants primarily from Stone and Mundo Lakes. The event was a lot of fun for everyone, and we look forward to similar event next year.
Currently, we appear to be in a transitional period on the Jicarilla Fishing Lakes. The days are getting longer and warmer and the ice conditions are showing signs of this warming. The ice is still stable at Mundo Lake but anglers have reported slushy conditions on the top couple of inches. The lower ice is solid and measures in the 6-8" range. The fishing remains consistent at Mundo with bait and jigs. Corn and jig/corn combos have been catching trout all winter. Reports of success with salmon eggs have also come in. The Fishing at Horse Lake has slowed way down over the last month, and the road is very muddy. 4wd is a necessity at this point and may not even be enough to keep from getting stuck. Feel free to call Kevin Terry at 505-759-3255 with any fishing questions or information for the fishing reports. THANKS
