-No Ice lasting through the afternoon at Mundo, the edges can be iced in the mornings.

Happy New Year Folks!

Looks like a pretty drought riddled 2026, if winter doesn't show up soon...

A few reports came in over the holidays. Excellent fishing per usual. 14-24" fish with consistency. Photos care off Mr. and Mrs. Q from Christmas day.

Folks,

Just a quick update:

No Ice sheets have formed as of yet. No reports have been submitted. The water is very cold and I would suspect things are sluggish.

Folks,

Many permits were sold but only one report was submitted.

Lots of fish caught all day long fourteen to seventeen inches long with one monster that taped twenty five inches.

It is almost Christmas, no real ice yet. Just around the edges in the morning.

Quick updates:

It isn't ice fishing season yet, in fact it appears we are a ways away from it. Mundo has a couple of feet of ice around the edges every morning but it is gone by lunch. I know that is a bummer for the hard water enthusiasts, but those who don't mind cold hands there is still open water fishing to be had. For how much longer is a great question, if I had to guess Mundo will have full ice coverage by Christmas.

One report was submitted from Mundo with ten fish in the 20 inch range and two fish in the 23 to 25 inch range all on a size 14 Poacher. Fishing fairly shallow was the ticket.

A big shout out to Dave K. with New Mexico Trout for coming up to Dulce this weekend and volunteering to teach an introductory fly tying class here at our office. The eleven participants from the community had a lot of fun

Quick Updates:

The Department will be closed November 26th thru 28th for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Do not expect a fishing report next week, as the weaker half of the Fish Crew will be on vacation (that's the half who does these blog entries).

One fishing report that indicated white streamers in five to six feet of water resulted in 2.5 fish per hour. Mr. Jeffery was out on Tuesday and managed a 16 or 17" fish in three or so minutes. He didn't submit a report, the Fish Crew witnessed it.

Winter(ish) weather descended on us this week and currently it is raining and quite dreary outside. We need it! If it keeps up precipitation until March or May you won't hear any complaints from me. If this weather keeps up we are very hopeful to have Enbom Lake back online this spring.

Folks,

One report from dozens of anglers out and about. Mr. Kurt reported fourteen fish 14 inches to 22.5 inches from his weekend of fishing. He mentioned zebra midges and mohair leeches.

Folks,

One report came in over the weekend with lots of nice photos (which I have included in the blog, because blogs with photos are better blogs).

The grasshopper was the fly of choice. As someone who uses dry flies for trout 99% of the time, I can appreciate this anglers gusto, moxy, and

down right correct fly choice. If you catch a twenty plus inch fish on the fly, it cannot be the wrong fly. Beautiful fish.

The better half of the Fish Crew is removing the Mundo docks for winter today, so don't let their absence confuse you. Winter is coming.

Hopefully a very very very snowy winter.

Folks,

One fishing report submitted over the weekend indicated Mundo was hot with sixteen fish caught with three taping at an astonishing 23" and the rest all 14"-18". Leeches, and smaller flies of the amphipod and gastropod variety, and the report also indicated quite a few anglers out at the lake over the weekend but only one report...When the fishing is that good folks sometimes try to keep it to themselves. Sounds like the fishing was better than just good for the reporter. Quite cold in the mornings, with frost on the windshields. Day time temperatures in the high 50s and low 60s.

Best of luck fishing, wherever you end up. I would be great to get some photos submitted with reports as it keeps it a little more fun around here. I'm slightly over bribes for reports, but not above it.

Folks,

No reports have been submitted. We did notice a fly angler outfishing the bait folks significantly earlier this week. What that means is anyone's guess. I have theories but I'll let you expert anglers come to your own more correct conclusions.
